Madelyn Vermel Burt was born on 22 October 1923 at Vaughn, Hill Co., TX., to Redin and Altie Lackey Burt, also of Hill Co., TX. Madelyn was the youngest daughter of their eight children. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942.
Madelyn met Eddie Roden at high school in Hill County, they married on 18 April 1941 and had daughters Barbara Joann, Kathryn Joyce and Paula Sue. They first farmed in Hill County, then moved to Dallas Oak Cliff in 1950, and then to Duncanville in 1978.
Madelyn and Eddie were both faithful members of the Church of Christ, serving 27 years at Hampton Place and for over 31 years at Duncanville, both where Eddie served as one of the elders. Madelyn was a typical elder's wife, who was a Bible class teacher and when having a visiting preacher or missionary for a Gospel meeting at church, she enjoyed having him into their home for a good meal. She always had her family at their home for the holidays, with a large dinner to celebrate it.
Madelyn is survived by her daughters, Barbara J. Roden Orsak & husband Sam of Mabank, TX., Kathy J. Roden Hammontree & husband Danny of Dallas, TX., and Paula S. Roden Rawlins & husband Joe, of Mesquite, TX. Her surviving grand-children are: Elisha G. Orsak Cotton & husband Mike of Ft. Worth, TX., J. Stephen Orsak & wife Farrah of Cedar Creek Lake, Ginna S. Rawlins Day of Rockwall, TX., Joe K. Rawlins, Jr., and Jonathan K. Rawlins, both of Denton, TX.
Madelyn was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband in 2009 and two grand-children; Laura V. Orsak Stepp in 2020 and R. Timothy Orsak in 2011. Madelyn was the last of her four sisters; Sylvia Burt Griffin, Blanche Burt Morgan, Verda Burt Morgan, Gwendoline Burt Godbey and three brothers; Herbert H. Burt, Ovid C. Burt and Redin Burt, Jr., to pass away.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, at 811 S. Cockrell Hill Rd., in Duncanville, TX., with family graveside services at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.
