Charles Dewey, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois died Thursday, February 17, 2000 at his home in Savanna.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, February 22, 2000 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Reverend Greg Albert of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2223. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00pm Monday, February 21 at Law-Jones Funeral Home where Rites of the Moose will be conducted at 7:45pm. A memorial fund has been established in Charles' name.
Charles was born on Friday February 4, 1921 in Hastings, Nebraska to Charles Garwood and Leona Mae (Buskirk) Dewey. He graduated from Hastings High School Hastings, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Marian Bowan on April 17, 1968 in Savanna.
Charles worked as an Ammunition Inspector with the QUASAS Program at the Savanna Army Depot for thirty-five years, retiring in December 1978.
Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, the Savanna Moose Lodge #1095, Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars, Savanna Lions Club and N.A.R.F.E. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and was a Nebraska Cornhusker Football and Atlanta Braves Baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Dewey of Savanna, one daughter, Jenny Dewey of Savanna: one step-son, Ronald (Norma) Williams of Savanna, three step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Fischer of Hastings, Nebraska and Shirley (Joe) Smith of Willows, California; two brothers, Robert (Ann) Dewey of Hawthorne, Florida and Dale Dewey of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was proceeded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
