Stephen G. Golden, 94, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, with his loving family by his side, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Syracuse and raised in Baldwinsville. After 42 years, Stephen retired in 1984 as an accountant with Eagan Real Estate. A proud Army veteran of WWII, he served with Battery B, 167th AAA Gun Battalion and was its founder of annual reunions. Stephen was a communicant of the Franciscan Church of the Assumption, a member of the Syracuse Moose and the VFW. He was known for his great sense of humor, and his enjoyments in life were his family, dancing, traveling, gardening and his SU football and basketball games. He was predeceased by his brother, John Golden. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Florence (Endres) Golden; children, Suzanne Golden, Stephen M. Golden, Denise (Douglas) Nolan, all of Syracuse; Jane Sadler (David) of Central Square, Mary (Kenneth) Golden-Kraushaar of Liverpool; grandchildren, Katie Powell, Christopher Nolan and Sarah Sadler; great-grandchildren, Max, Ian, Avery, Mari and Mila; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool. A prayer service will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Franciscan Church of the Assumption at 11 a.m. The Rite of Committal and burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Contributions in Stephen's name may be made to the Franciscan Church of the Assumption Food Pantry, 812 North Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
