Her mother dying when she was born, she was taken in the home of Charles Hemry and cared for as a daughter until her marriage to George Hemry, which occurred Dec. 31, 1874. To this union was born five children, two dying in infancy; those remaining being Rhoda Rowse, living near the home, Ralph Roy, now in western Washington, and Cecil A., still in the home. She leaves to mourn her departure, husband, three children, two grand children and four half-brothers, besides a host of other relatives and friends
She united with the United Brethren church when she was a young girl and remained a faithful Christian ever since. "Aunt Gertrude," as she was familiarly known, was always ready and willing to assist those in need and affliction. One of the very last things she did before taking to her bed was to go into a home and minister to those who were sick. Those of her family say she could not have been a better wife and mother. She was devoted to her family, tenderly nursing and caring for them through long sieges of sickness. A good wife, loving mother, sister and friend has gone to her reward. Our loss, we trust, is her eternal gain.
The funeral services which occurred Monday, Feb 12, 1912, at Powers' chapel, were in charge of the pastor, Rev. A. R. Gilliam. Interment was made in Powers' cemetery.
Her mother was Louise Underwood who died 22 Apr 1857 in Steuben Co., IN
