Joseph Parry Thomas and his father, Joseph Sanders Thomas were killed in the Scofield Mine Disaster of 01 May 1900. Both he and his father were buried in Scofield, UT. On November 25, 1933, members of his family had the Wheeler Mortuary of Springville re-inter the remains of four of the family to the Spanish Fork Cemetery.

Those reinterred were: Joseph Sanders Thomas , Joseph Parry Thomas , Fredrick Edwards Thomas #12478641 and Elizabeth Ann Thomas
