Merlin Jenkins, 88, of Carroll, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, March 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. The Rev. Ray D. E. McCalla officiated.

John Merlin Jenkins was born July 6, 1924, on a farm near Carroll to Sam and Emily (Morris) Jenkins. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1942. Merlin served in the United States Army Infantry from April through November of 1945. He later farmed near Carroll until moving into Carroll in 1959. He was employed by Cunningham Well Company until retiring in 1986. Merlin was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church near Carroll. He served as the caretaker of the Bethany Cemetery for many years. He belonged to Carroll American Legion Post #165. Merlin enjoyed crocheting, craft shows, collecting old toys, toy cars, and antiques.

Merlin is survived by five nieces and one nephew, Dorothy Shetler, Charlotte Jenckes, Bill (Joan) Batten, Mary (Edward) Verzal, Sue (Willis) Davis, and Sally (Dennis) Bateman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Morris and Ronald Jenkins; five sisters, Esther Batten, Vera Jenkins, Cora Jenkins, Etta Fisher, and an infant.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Burris, Edward Verzal, Willis Davis, and Dennis Bateman.
Burial with military rites was in Bethany Cemetery of rural Carroll. Memorials may be directed to the Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery Memorial Fund, c/o Sally Bateman, Box 545, Sidney, Iowa, 51652.
Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne was in charge of arrangements.
