FATAL ACCIDENT ON THE TWEED
On the evening of Monday, the 23d June, while Mr Charles Brewster, the second son of Dr Brewster of Allerly, was swimming across a deep pool in the Tweed, a little above Melrose, he was drawn into an eddy formed by the rapidity of the current, and sunk to the bottom. One of his younger brothers, who had been bathing along with him, ran for assistance to Gattonside House, when G C Bainbridge, Esq, with that feeling and energy of character which distinguish him, instantly repaired to the spot, and after diving to the bottom of the pool, succeeded in bringing up the body. info from Find A Grave Contributor GariochGraver
