She was born July 28, 1928 in Surry County to the late Hanabal and Neva Smith Slate.
She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Ann and Danny Ray Thornburg, and Sandra Kay Vipperman all of Mt. Airy, Kathleen Sue Stevens of King and Peggy Jo and Donald Parries of Laurel Fork, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Harvey T. Jennings, Jr. and Debbie Jennings of Pilot Mountain: six grandchildren and spouses, Nicholas and Melody Jennings of Dobson, Jennifer Surratt, of King, Michelle Stevens of King, Danny Ray Thornburg, Jr., Benjamin Turner and Tonya Jennings and Daniel Vipperman all of Mt. Airy; nine great grandchildren; several step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jennings was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, David Stevens and Andy Vipperman, seven sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Monday, November 5, 2012 at Highland Park Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Slate and Dr. Darrell Tate. Burial will follow in the Booker-Busick-Smith Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 pm Sunday night at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
