Mrs. Lizzie Lancaster Strunk, 89, a member of a pioneer McCreary County family, died this morning at Somerset City Hospital following an illness of about one month.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was active in civic and community affairs of Stearns for many years. She was for 45 years the operator of the Stearns Hotel, retiring from the position some three years ago. She had lived in Somerset since last May.
Born in Sadieville, November 30, 1870, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester Booth and Talitha McLoney Lancaster. She was united in marriage to Dennis Toomey in Glenmary, Tennessee, and later to George W. Strunk, who died in January 1933.
She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Stearns where she was active in church affairs and an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ed Strunk and Mrs. R.C. Sievers, both of Somerset, Mrs. S.C. King, Copley, Ohio, four step-children, Ms. James Caylor, Chula Vista, Calif., Joe Strunk, Somerset, Mrs. Ben Coleman, San Diego, Calif, Mrs. Claude Jefferies, Dayton, Ohio, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Two sisters, Mrs. Freeman Newport, Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Minnie Lewellan, Glenmary, Tenn. also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday November 25 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of the Somerset Undertaking Company with the Rev. Isadore Childers and the Rev. L.D. Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.
