Helen M. Shelton, 96, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

She was born June 1, 1917 in Malvern, Iowa, daughter of Enno and Anna Lupkes Barkhoff. She married Don Shelton on December 6, 1947 in Cedar Falls. He died July 4, 1965.

She was employed in food services with Hubbell's in Des Moines, the Hotel Colorado in Denver, CO, the President Hotel in Waterloo, Porky's, the Commons at UNI, and she had her own catering business. Helen made beautiful cocktail sandwiches and lovely cakes, many of them for her nieces' and nephews' graduations and weddings. She had a great love for the flowers in her garden and the violets in her home.

Survived by two brothers, Archie (Lavonne) Barkhoff of Waverly and George (Wilma) Barkhoff of Cedar Falls; a sister, Elsie Vold of Tacoma, WA; two sister-in-laws, June Barkhoff and Jeannette Barkhoff, both of Minnesota; 20 nieces and nephews; thirty-one great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Paul, Louis and Bennie Barkhoff; two sisters, Annie Broeker and Christine Beck; five sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

Visitation will be held from 11 to 1 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service with burial to follow in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Additional Memorial Services will be held in April.
