Jerry served 14 years in the United States Army National Guard and then worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years; he retired in 1999. Jerry was a member of the Curry County Bowling League, Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, Melrose Fire Department as a member and chief for numerous years, and Melrose Lions Club. He served two terms on the Melrose City Council and coached Little League Baseball for many years all while being an active member of the United Methodist Church of Melrose. If Jerry wasn't busy being the "handy-man" of Melrose he was spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing or playing dominoes.
He married his bride Dixie Jackson Jacobs on June 29th, 1958 in New Port, Arkansas. Jerry is survived by his wife Dixie and all four children, Lynette Fish, Michael Jacobs (Tammie), Kenny Jacobs (Tammy) all of Melrose, Karen Burns of Clovis, and Philip Daly of Arizona. Eight grandchildren, Chesnea Clemmons (Seth); Jason Burns (Janessa); Kelly Fish; Jared Burns; Kyle Jacobs; Josh Broom; Kendra Jacobs; Kaleb Broom, two great-grandchildren Jaxon and Jaselee Burns, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother and father, two sisters, and a sister in law.
Pall Bearers will be: Danny Fish, Dee Fish, Gary Hollaway, Gordon Morris, Johnny Bruce, and Steve Boyd. Honorary pall bearers are Dr. David Stalker and staff, RGH Medical Floor Staff, Jimmy Dale Smith, Butch Smith, Don Hightower, Don Gunn and many, many friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for the numerous phone calls, flowers, food, and prayers. Things may never seem the same as they were before this loss, but we are so blessed to have had someone so great to love. "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you" - 1 Peter 5:10.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28th at 10:00 AM at the Melrose Municipal Schools Old Gym.
