Berthanna was the daughter of George (Gjert) Johnson and Bretta Christensen. Her parents were born in Norway and known as Gjert Johannesen from Upper Dósland in Kvinnherad, Hordaland, Norway and Bretta (Britta) Christensdatter Skeie, also from Kvinnherad.
Berthanna married J. J. Heie, who was a Lutheran minister.
Berthanna was buried in Kvindherred Cemetery on June 11, 1927.
