Rachel Marie Smith Richmond, 96, of The Villages of Greystone, formerly of Russell Street, Beckley, W.Va., died Thursday, 02 Jan 2014.
Mrs. Richmond was born 20 Aug 1917 in Abraham, Raleigh Co., W.Va., a daughter of Charles Ota (C.O.) Smith Sr. and wife Flora Lee Arthur.
Marie, as she was known by all of her family and friends, was a dedicated homemaker for 69 years to her loving husband, Billy Edward Richmond, until he passed away in 2006.
The love she had for her family went beyond unparalleled measures. She also loved her flower gardens where she could make anything grow into something beautiful.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son Billy Eugene Richmond in 1995; grandson, John Edward Richmond; sisters Juanita Fitzgerald, June Westfall, Louella Goodson and Eileen Mann; and brothers Sebird, Dempsey, Robert Noel and Charles "C.O." Smith Jr. She was the last surviving child of C.O. Sr. and Flora.
Mrs. Richmond was survived by a daughter-in-law, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on 08 Jan 2014 at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, W.Va., with the Rev. John Lares officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
