John C Mayer, pioneer resident of Kearney passed away at the home of his brother, Henry, suddenly following a heart attack Tuesday evening. He was visiting his brothers and sisters residing there.
Born in Wisconsin on March 15, 1876, Mr. Mayer came to Kearney with his parents as a boy of 7 years and has ever since made his home in this community. He was always jolly and full of fun, looked upon the bright side of life and made many friends in this community during his residence here, all of whom will miss him. He was married to Jessie Pool in Kearney in 1898.
Mr. Mayer is survived by two children, Mrs. Frances Silva of Buffalo and Guy Mayer of Kaycee, three brothers and five sisters: Henry of Story, Annie of Story, Richard of Jradine, Mont., Ida of Long Beach, Calif., Amelia and Amanda of Story, Jennie of Long Beach, Calif, and Edward of Jackson, Wyo., four grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife and three children.
The body will lie in state at the Hinterberg funeral home until the hour of the service where friends may call to pay their respect. Funeral services will be held at 1:15 Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church. Rev. S. Milton Jarratt will officiate and interment will be in the Kearney cemetery.
