Mrs. St. John was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Vidalia, Ga., to the late Elijah Galbreath and the late Ida Morris Galbreath.
As a proud Navy wife she had resided throughout the United States and several foreign countries. Mrs. St. John had made her home in Rutherford College for the past several years.
During the early part of her life she had been employed as a secretary at Oscar Mayer Company in Chicago. During World War II she had worked in the shipyards at Norfolk, Va., and also as as a telephone operator.
Mrs. St. John was truly a beautiful lady and had been employed as a model and was featured in commercials for the Colgate Company. She was of the Southern Baptist faith and was a devoted homemaker. 'The Duchess,' as she was affectionately know by friends and family, was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother and shall be deeply missed.
Surviving are her daughters, Donna F. Fowler of Valdese and Karen R. Edwards and her life partner, Bonnie Thomas, and family of Morganton; a son, Steven F. St. John and his wife, Sandy, of California; grandchildren, Kandi and her husband, Sincere, Chad and his wife, Erica, Sean, Scott, Jessie, Stephanie and Bo; great-grandchildren, Edwin Lee, Toni, Chase and Jessica; great-greatgrandchildren, Fabian, Anelia, Aniyah, Edwin Jr., Chase Jr., DeAngelo and Valerie; a sister, Imogene Roberson of Louisiana; and a brother, John Galbreath of Ft. Dodge, Iowa.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home in Canton, N.C. The Rev. Bruce Cayton will be officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.
