Dovie was born February 3, 1932 in Wynne, Arkansas. At the age of seven, she moved with her mother to Soledad, California where she grew up and attended schools. In 1948 she moved to Salinas, California where she met Larry King and in November 1948 they were married. In 1985 she moved to Stockton, California and in 1989 moved to Grants Pass.
Her hobbies included crocheting, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, reading and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband, Larry King of Grants Pass, Oregon; four daughters, Brenda Farran of El Dorado, Missouri, Sherry Scott of Prineville, Oregon, Judy Eldredge of Jefferson, Oregon and Shelley Hatfield of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, Larry King of Salinas, California; a sister, Gerene Mann of Phoenix, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.∼Birth: Feb. 3, 1932
