Sherman L. Anderson, 77, of Linton, passed away at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born April 15, 1926, in Emison, Ind., he was the son of John Joshua and Cynthia (Burress) Anderson. He was a funeral director and bank president. He opened Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home in Linton in 1950, and in 1970 he took over the Sandborn Funeral Home. He purchased the Dugger Funeral Home in 2001. He was chairman and president and CEO of Citizens National Bank of Linton, and executive vice-president of Ambanc Corp. He also was a partner with Don Gregg in A.M. Risher Trucking and the Park Inn Motel. He was a 1948 graduate of the Indiana Institute Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Linton; served eight years on the Indiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors; served 16 years as chairman of the legislative committee for the Indiana Funeral Directors Association; was past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 866, Linton; Past Master of Linton Masonic Lodge; Past President of Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce; American Legion Post 22; Moose Lodge; Eagles Lodge; VFW in Linton; Lions Club of Sandborn; was a past trustee of Vincennes University; served as treasurer, vice chairman and chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association and American Bankers Association; and was a member of board of directors for the Greene County Foundation, Linton Rotary, Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharman and Marshall Smith and Karman and Don Albright of Linton; three grandchildren, Shane Allen Albright, Jared Lee Albright, and Kali Michele Smith; six brothers, Wayne Anderson of Sandborn, Wendall Anderson of Westphalia, Bryce Abe Anderson of Freelandville, John Anderson of Lubbock, Texas, Curt Anderson of Sandborn, and David Anderson of Linton; three sisters, Marjorie Stevens of Pleasant Lake, Mich., Dolores Hollingsworth of Indianapolis, and Virginia Stanton, Williamstown, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margorie Nell (Poindexter) Anderson in 1998; an infant son; and his parents. Funeral service will be at the First Christian Church at 1 p.m. on Friday with Mike Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 2-9 p.m. on Thursday, and 11 a.m. on Friday until the time of service. Military/Lodge services will be conducted by American Legion Post 22, VFW Post 7118 and Greene County Chapter DAV Chapter 99. Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Elks Association, Cancer Program, 1803 Broadway, Anderson, Ind., 46012 or the Linton-Stockton High School band or choir departments in care of the funeral home.
