Edward John McNamara was a son of Patrick McNamara and Mary Gabriella Sullivan.
His brothers were Francis J McNamara, Richard Lawrence McNamara, Walter McNamara and his sister was Rose McNamara Focer.
He served in the Army in WW1 from July 23rd, 1917 to April 12th, 1919. He was at Headquarters Co of the 111th Infantry. He was in 5 major engagements/battles in France. These include the Argonne. I don't know how he survived.
Later, Uncle Edward worked as a secretary and later manager of the estate of the very, very wealthy Helen Frick who donated a lot of things to Pittsburgh.
He married Cecelia Schlabach a.k.a. "Aunt Ceil". They adopted a child named John Charles McNamara. They lived at 103 Woodhaven Drive in Mount Lebanon.
Edward's life was much too short. He died at age 47. Aunt Ceil had to live a long time without him.
He died of a heart attack. He had a previous heart attack when he was 45. His brother Francis and nephew Bob had early heart attacks too.
I am convinced a defect in metabolism from folate to methyfolate is the cause , time may tell.
He died December 5th, 1941, and everybody was at his funeral December 7th, 1941 when the radio announced Pearl Harbor was attacked.
I think he was a good guy who would have liked to help his country again. Maybe from heaven he did.
John grew up to be a wonderful man.
His obituary December 6th, 1941 The Pittsburgh Press, page 14.

A native of Pittsburgh, Mr McNamara was a member of St Anne's Church, The Knights Of Columbus and The Veterans Of Foreign Wars. During The World War ( note WWII had not begun yet - E,) Mr. McNamara served with the 28th Division in France. He leaves his widow Cecelia, son John Charles McNamara and brothers Walter J and Lawrence and a sister Miss Rose McNamara, all of Pittsburgh. Funeral arrangements have not been completed."
His wife Cecelia bought the plot for 3 people but he is the only one there. I will keep trying to find Aunt Ceel. ( I finally did. She remarried to Hugo Hensch. Ceel is buried with their son John and John's wife.
