Ann Whipple Cluff was the eldest daughter of Eli and Patience Foster Whipple. The family moved to California and settled near Redwood City where her father worked in the lumber business. The family left California in March of 1858 to join the LDS Saints in Utah. In their party was Ann's future husband William Wallace Cluff who was returning to Utah after serving a mission in Hawaii.

They were married 24 October 1863 and moved to Coalville, Utah where William served as a stake president for the LDS Church in that area. Ann lived to bear 8 children, 4 of which she was able to see grow up. Ann was a productive citizen, good investor and maker of gloves. She was loving and always helping orphans and the poor.
