POQUOSON - Barbara McLelland Herring, 83, a native of Chadbourn, NC, and a resident of Hampton since 1952 before moving to Poquoson in 1997, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Barbara retired in 1991 from Leggett Department Store (Belk) in downtown Hampton after 20 years. She grew up as a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Chadbourn, and became a longtime & active member of Memorial Baptist Church, Hampton. In recent years, she attended Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers, and step-daughter, Pat Duncan. In 1986, Barbara & Edwin became "Snowbirds", and spent winters in LaBelle. While there she attended Eastside Baptist Church; was a member of the Red Hatters Aqua Isles Belles; was a Salvation Army bell ringer for many years; and enjoyed visits from family and friends. She loved playing bingo, and always enjoyed being with her bingo friends in Poquoson and LaBelle. She enjoyed working "Demos" at the Poquoson Farm Fresh. The family will receive friends Friday, 1:30-3:00 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by a graveside service in the Parklawn Memorial Park Chapel, Hampton, at 3:30 PM by Rev. Charles R. Stacy and Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Everyone is invited after the funeral to 111 Lodge Rd., Poquoson, for food and fellowship. Memorial contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, which she loved and continues to provide care and support for Edwin, to 1110 Carlyle St., LaBelle, FL, 33935. "Barbara loved her Lord, her family, her friends, and the wonderful life she had with all of them."
