Elijah was born in New York, possibly Columbia County, to Nathaniel and Anna (Spink) Huson. On 23 October 1815 in Columbia County he married Alzada Tyler. The couple moved to Yates County, New York, by 1816. Elijah was the father of eight children; Nelson, Judson M., Richard, Elijah Lafayett, George T., Louisa, Burgess, and Samantha. Exactly when he and Alzada migrated to Lake County, Illinois, is not known, but they were there by 1846. (All of his children, save Nelson, who died at the age of 21 in Yates County, New York, also went to Lake County.)
Elijah's headstone is no longer extant, but a reading of the cemetery in 1962 and another in 1981 indicates his death occurred on the date shown above. His will, probated about 13 years after his death, verifies the date.
