Samuel Huson, Died 24 Sep 1869
In this village on the 24 inst of "Strangulated Hernia" Mr. Samuel Huson, in the 69th year of his age.
Mr. Huson was a son of the late Nathaniel Huson, Sen., and a brother of Mr. Calvin Huson, whose demise we recorded a few weeks since.
He was a native of Columbia Co., N.Y., and came to this town with his father in 1818, since which time he has lived in or near Dundee, and has been identified with the place ever since it became a village, and for several years was engaged in mercantile operations, but more laterally has given attention to farming and stock dealing. He was twice married. His first wife was Mary Ann, a daughter of the late Samuel Harpending, but who died young. He was then married to Miss Rachel Kozad, a cousin of his first wife, who survives him, with two daughters who composed his family. He was attentive to business and by industry and frugality gathered a competence. He was a man who independently entertained opinions peculiar to himself, politically, and religiously, and aimed to sustain the reputation of an honest man. We formed his acquaintance in 1838, and have had transactions with him up to his decease, and our friendship has been mutual and pleasant through all the time
Some four weeks ago he went to his farm to aid in stacking oats, and in doing this contracted a severe cold. This brought on a caugh (sic) with some fever, but no particular fears were entertained as to the result until the trouble indicated above manifested itself, when his career was closed in a few hours. He was sensible of his situation and well knew there was no help in his case. Thus another of our early friends in this place has gone the way of earth. We pen this note to his memory and offer our sympathy and condolence to his bereaved family.
Note: He was the son of Nathaniel and Betsey (Warren) Huson. A merchant at one time in Dundee, Yates County, he was the father of three children, Lurissa, Mary, and John C.
