A. J. Franklin, Ingersoll Twp. Pioneer, Dies
Adoniram Judson Franklin, 90, the last of the original Ingersoll Township pioneers, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at his home in Poseyville, where he had lived for the last 70 years.
Mr. Franklin was born Nov. 20, 1859, in Howick County, Ont., and came to Ingersoll Township when that area was a wilderness. Mr. Franklin was a carpenter by trade and helped "blaze" the trail when the Freeland road from Poseyville to Freeland was built. During his 70 years residence, he had watched Midland grow from a small settlement to an industry community.
In his 90th birthday last November, he celebrated the occasion with a joint private party with his neighbor, George Doil, who was also 90 years old.
Surviving are two daughters and two sons; Miss Mina and Miss Nina Franklin; 505 East Nelson street; Oliver and August Franklin of Poseyville and four granddaughters. A daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Esler, who operated the Midland Knitwear Store for a number of years, preceded him in death. His son, Oliver operates the Franklin store in Poseyville.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday from the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. William J. Mindy of Saginaw, pastor of the Poseyville Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Midland Cemetery.
