Vander Wegen, William (OCT 1894 - 5 MAR 1938)
Wm. Vander Wegen died at his home in Chetek on Saturday evening of kidney trouble and heart disease. He had been doctoring for several years and recently was a patient at the Veterans hospital at Minneapolis. His death was sudden.
Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vander Wegen, and was born at Green Bay, Wis., in Oct. 1894. He was brought up on the old Vander Wegen farm in the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) and attended the local schools. In 1925 he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Ziegenbein at Withee. Two children blessed this union, one of whom, with this widow, survive. Other relatives left to mourn his early demise are his mother, Mrs. Peter Vander Wegen of Withee; five sisters, Mrs. Nettie Deney and Mrs. Louise Johnson of Green Bay; Mrs. Nellie Springer, Beloit, Mrs. Ann Bedwell, Stevens Point, Mrs. Ida Devine, Owen; four brothers, Frank of Clark, Gus and Clarence of Eau Claire, and Thomas of Thorp.
Last rites were conducted at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Withee, Tuesday morning, Rev. Charles Brady officiating, and interment taking place in the Riverside Cemetery, near Black River. American Legion members of Chetek acted as pallbearers and an escort from the Thorp American Legion Post, of which the departed was a member, accompanied the comrade to his last resting place with military honors accorded by the usual salute and taps.
