Vander Wegen, Peter (2 MAR 1858 - 22 MAY 1931)

Peter Vander Wegen, farmer, residing southwest of Withee, Clark Co., Wis., in the town of Longwood, met almost instant death while plowing with a team on Friday afternoon last. A stallion he was using suddenly became ugly. In trying to quiet him he attacked Mr. Vander Wegen who was severely bitten by the animal about the head. Mrs. Vander Wegen called assistance and he was carried to the house where he died about 45 minutes later. Undertaker John G. Bogumill brought the body here and prepared same for burial. On Saturday the remains were taken to the home and funeral services were held at the catholic church at Withee on Monday morning, Father McGuire officiating, followed by interment in the Riverside Cemetery west of Withee. Mr. Vander Wegen was born at Green Bay, Wis., on March 2, 1858 and had reached the age of 73 years, 2 months and 20 days. He leaves to mourn, his wife and the following children: Mrs. Chester Johnson and Mrs. Adolph Deneys of Green Bay; Mrs. Adolph Springer of Beloit; Mrs. H. J. Bedwell of Stevens Point; August Vander Wegen and Clarence Vander Wegen of Eau Claire; Ed Vander Wegen of Ogema; Frank and William Vander Wegen of Withee; Thomas Vander Wegen of Thorp and Mrs. James Devine of Owen.
