Barbara A. Abell, 79, a resident of The Meadows Assisted Living in Fall River and formerly of Sheboygan and Pardeeville, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

Barbara Ann was born the daughter of David Lester and Neva Elvita (Ruckle) Raymond on September 18, 1932 in Grand Rapids, MI. She was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School. Barbara was married to Douglas Henry Hoffmann. She was later married to Edward Bankart Abell. Barbara, along with her husband, Doug, operated the Riverdale Country Club in Sheboygan and Fox Hills in Mishicot. She was also employed with the Sheboygan Clinic until moving to Pardeeville, WI, where she then worked for Harkins & O'Connor Eye Clinic in Portage, WI. In her retirement, Barbara was a volunteer at Divine Savior Nursing Home. Barbara was a past member of the Portage Country Club. She was an avid Packers fan and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.

Barbara is survived by her children, Karla Hoffmann, Fall River; Kit Hoffmann, Randolph, Mass.; and Dawn Hoffmann-Gault; her stepchildren, David (Donna) Abell, Delavan, WI; Edward (Kristin) Abell, Cedar Grove, WI; Robert Abell, Milwaukee, WI; and Amy (Joseph) Wolf, Appleton, WI; her sister, Sue (Allan) Jurss, Sheboygan; her sisters-in-law, Marcia Raymond and Sallie Raymond, both of Sheboygan; her brother-in-law, William Hertzberg, Jensen Beach, FL; grandchildren, Andrew and Anthony Hoffmann, Justin and Jordan Gault; stepgrandchildren, Tammy Koehn, Susie Sienkowski, Nathan and Christopher Abell, and Alex and Nick Wolf; two great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Doug Hoffmann and Edward Abell; her son, Scott Hoffmann; her brothers, Harold and Richard Raymond; her sisters, Mary Jane Hertzberg and June Snipes; and her brother-in-law, Russell Snipes.

A Celebration of Barbara's Life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Riverdale Country Club in Sheboygan.

Memorials in Barbara's name may be made to the Barbara Abell Memorial Fund at The Meadows Assisted Living, 101 Hometown Ave, Fall River, WI 53932 or to the Aldo Leopold Audubon Society.
