After graduating from Newport High School, she worked as a stitcher for Norriwock Shoe in Showhegan for 42 years. Martha enjoyed spending time on the coast, especially Old Orchard Beach, her poodles, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by a son Ronald Barnes; a daughter, Linda Harrington; son-in-law Carroll Tuttle; and two sisters, Madeline and Marion. Surviving are three children, Patricia Tuttle, Robert Barnes, and Carleton Barnes Jr.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
