Johanna was born in Germany. She married husband Johann Friedrich Angerman circa 1837, and they appear to have had at least six children together--Amelia Agusta (b.1838), Johanna (b.1840), William (b.1842), Anstena (b.1845), Ernestina Emily (b.1848) and Henry (b. 1852). All of the children were born in Germany except Henry, who was born in Indiana.

The family seems to have immigrated to the U.S. circa 1850 but don't apppear to have settled in time to show up on the census record that year. They did appear on the 1860 enumeration. Johann Americanized his name as did most German families, and Johanna appears to have started using the name Caroline. Somehow the family ended up in North Township (today part of Plymouth), Marshall, Indiana. John was farming and son William, aged 18, was working as an apprentice baker. Daughter Joanna married William W. Hill on 6 Jan 1857 in Marshall Co.

During the Civil War, John's son William served as a Private with Co. F of the 73rd Regiment of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He mustered in on 16 Aug 1862 and out on 1 Jul 1865. He returned home but may have been ill as he died about three months later on 29 Sep 1865.

John and Caroline (enumerated under Johanna C.) appeared on the 1870 Census. The had moved a little further south to Rochester, Fulton, Indiana. John was earning a living as a wagon maker. Only son Henry was still living at home with his parents. He was 18 and was working as a tinsmith.

I couldn't find the family on the 1880 Census. Caroline died on 20 Aug 1887 at age 66. John died a year later on 7 Mar 1888 at age 75. Both were laid to rest next to son William.
