Amelia was the daughter of Johann Friedrich/John and Johanna Caroline A. Angerman. She was born in Sachsen, Germany and immigrated to the U.S. in 1850 when she was 12 years old. Her known siblings were William F. (b.1842), Anstena (sp?) (b.1845), Emily (b.1848), and Henry (b.1852), all born in Germany except Henry who was born in Indiana.

I found her family on the 1860 Census, living in North, Marshall, Indiana, where her father John was farming for a living. Brother William was working as an apprentice baker.

Amelia married John Frederic Behrens on 4 Jun 1864 Marshall Co., Indiana. They had five children together-Willie (b./d. 1865), Charles F. (1868), John A. (1869), Annie C. (1874) and Matie A. (1879).

I found them on the 1870 and 1880 Census, living in Center Twp. (part of Plymouth), Marshall, Indiana, where John was a dry goods merchant.

John died in 1890 at age 52. Amelia appeared on the 1900 Census, aged 61, widowed, living with daughter Anna, Anna's husband Oscar Porter, and their three sons-Henry Oliver (14), Arthur L. (12), and Rolin B. (3). Oscar was farming for a living. Amelia reported that four of her five children had survived to that census.

Son Charles had married Laura I. Zweck on 25 May 1890 in Marshall Co., son John had married Sadie A. Wrightsman on 2 Oct 1890 in Marshall Co., and Annie had married Oscar R. Porter on 10 Jun 1894 in Marshall Co. I could not find a record for daughter Matie.

Amelia was still living with Oscar and Anna when the 1910 Census rolled around. She died eight years later in 1918 at age 80, and was laid to rest at John's side.
