NAOMI ABIGAIL "Omi" (BAKER) LUCAS
(February 8, 1872 ~ July 30, 1902)

Naomi was born to Arthur Cornelius Baker & Susan (Dickerson) Baker on February 8, 1872 in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina.

She married William Bartley Lucas.

Naomi died on July 30, 1902, when she was only 30 years old but had already birthed four (4) children...Steve, Edna, Hettie and Roy Lucas. They lived in Van Zandt County, Texas at the time of her death.

Her daughter, Edna Ashby told me that her mother got too close to their fireplace when changing Roy's clothes, and her long dress-tail caught fire. Roy was only about one year old. She was burned really badly but did not die that day. Shortly, she did pass away from the bad burn wounds. She probably would have lived if that had happened much later, but the doctors probably didn't have the expertise in skin grafting and not good medical equipment in 1902.

When Naomi died, Steve was 13, Edna was 10, Hettie was 3 and Roy was only 1 year old. Edna told me that the Baker families helped them a lot.

The children had some disagreements later as to how they were raised by their father. Edna stated that they all later agreed to never discuss the matter anymore.

William Lucas married again between 1902 and 1918, and fathered two more children, William Bluford Lucas and Joe Duey Lucas.

Naomi Abigail (Baker) Lucas' daughter, Edna lived to be 102 years old, her son, Steve, 89, her daughter, Hettie,, 95 and son, Roy, 90.
(Helen (Baker) Foglesong)

Wife of William B. Lucus (1900 census Van Zandt Co. TX).
