A Memorial Service was held on Monday, October 28, 2013, at University United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.∼Valerie Newsom Achee, a loving daughter, mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at approximately 1:30 am at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was a native of Alexandria, resident of Baton Rouge and had retired from Louisiana State University as a Researcher.
There will be a Memorial Gathering at University United Methodist Church, 3550 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge, La. until Memorial service, conducted by Rev. Larry Miller and Rev. Carol Civils. Arrangements entrusted to Ourso Funeral Home.
She is survived by her mother: Margaret Eileen Zike Newsom, 1 daughter & son-in-law: Yvette Achee Buckner & Al Buckner, 1 son & daughter-in-law: Timothy Achee, Jr. & Deepa Srikanta, 1 sister: Susan Cantwell, 2 brothers: Johnny Newsom & Michael Newsom, 4 grandchildren: Stephen Buckner, Brittney White, Cole Buckner & Saraswati Srikanta-Achee.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Timothy Achee, Sr. and her father: John Derrell Newsom.
She was a lifelong artist and a long time member and a former Sunday School teacher at University United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, La.
