Barbara "Bobbe" Trueax, age 73, of Michigan City, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 11:45 a.m. at Sterling House, Michigan City, IN.


Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at 12:00 noon at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church. Burial will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. Carlisle Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Trueax was born October 9, 1934 in Michigan City to George and Leara (Flotow) Balow, both of whom preceded her in death.

On June 16, 1957 in Michigan City, she married Dale E. Trueax, he preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1999.

Surviving are daughters Gayle (David) Radavich, Greenfield, WI and Lynne Davis of Indianapolis, grandchildren Emily and Cole Davis, and Ben, Michael and Kyle Radavich, aunt Alice (John) Flotow of Michigan City, brother-in-law Al Niece II of Phoenix, AZ, nephews Al Niece III, Austin, TX, Tom Niece, Phoenix, AZ and Craig Niece, Prescott, AZ, cousins Bill Breining of Michigan City, Joanne (Don) Grote, Chesterton and Jane (Willard) Orrick, Niles, MI, and special friend, David Fritz.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Balow and sister-in-law Dee Niece.

She graduated from Elston High School in 1952 and Indiana University in 1956 with a BS Degree in elementary education. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social fraternity.

Mrs. Trueax taught school in Goeppingen, Germany in the U.S. Army school while her husband served in the 4th Armored Div. Band. She substituted for 10 years in the Michigan City Area Schools.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. She taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, and taught preschool at the church for 14 years, and was a director for 9 years. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood, Chapter BA, and a sustaining member of the Michigan City Service League.

She was a beloved and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, and friend to us all.

She enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Messiah Fund, the Michigan City Service League, or PEO Sisterhood Chapter BA.
