Green Dial was born in Warren County, Tennessee to John Dial and Anna Cox Dial. He married Mary McCall Newton on 8 Feb 1848 in Shelby County, Texas. They were parents of the following children: Ann, John Asa, Lilla, Almira, Julia, Ebenezer, Samuel, Mary, Martha, Margaret, George, and James. He moved to Texas in 1837 with his family. He served in the Mexican War as well as the Civil War. He died of pneumonia in Fannin County, Texas. He was buried in the Mulberry Cemetery, Fannin County. His marker has been placed in the Eldorado Cemetery, Jackson County, Oklahoma as a cenotaph.

The burial location of Julia Dial Murrell, a daughter, has not been found.
