Douglas Craig Hameister, 56, of La Crosse, formerly of Rochester, Minn., passed away suddenly on Oct. 16, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

He was born June 30, 1957, to Carl and Edna (Schneckloth) Hameister in Rochester. He married Doreen Christianson on May 24, 2013. He was previously married to Sandra Hameister for many years.

He enjoyed darts, playing cards, gambling and joking around with family and friends. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1975, where he was a state wrestling champion. He was a self-employed Sider for 30 years. He most recently was helping out at Sekapp Orchard for his best friend, Freddie.

He is survived by his wife; children, Bonnie Hameister, Craig Hameister, Danya Christianson; grandchildren, Shannon Meyers, Brittany Sneed, Bailey Sneed, Kaylee Ball; siblings, Dewayne (Sharon) Schneckloth, Curtis (Virginia) Hameister, David (Carol) Hameister, Debra "Julie" (Jason) Hagedorn, Linda Hameister, Bruce Hameister; 16 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death his parents; and two brothers, Dennis and James.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Rochester American Legion Post 92, 403 E. Center St., Rochester. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
