Freeport, Ill. Romain H. Kimpe, 81, of Freeport died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at University Hospital in Madison, Wis.

He was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Fauville, France, the son of Cyriel and Leonie (Albrecht) Kimpe. Romain married Ginette Debloos in 1949 in Mount Carroll. She died in 1988. He married Ursula Beer in 1990.

He was employed by Krafts 25 years, and also farmed near Stockton. Frenchy used his incredible talents to create innovative ideas throughout his career, both with Kraft Foods and on his farm.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are his wife Ursula, of Freeport; a son, William (Dawna) Kimpe of Spring, Texas; a daughter, Joanne Slattery of Freeport; three grandchildren, Amber Slattery of Philadelphia and Nathan and Natalie Kimpe, both of Spring; his stepchildren, Warren Beer of Palo Alto, Calif., Christine (Glen) Feak of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Brian (Ginger) Beer of Yorkville; his stepgrandchildren, Bonni Beer of Palo Alto, Karl Feak of Champaign, Angela Feak of New York, N.Y., Lauren Beer of Peoria, Kaitlin Beer and Michael Beer, both of Yorkville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents and a sister.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Monsignor P. William McDonnell officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of service.

Arrangements were made by Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel.

A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
