Priscilla Irene Jones was born November 10, 1910 in Moscow, Polk County, Texas to
Samuel Bradford "Poss" Jones and
Maryann Ellafair "Ella" Jordan Jones.
She was the eighth of ten children and was named for her maternal grandmother
Priscilla Irene Truss Jordan.
The Jones family had moved to Texas from Arkansas in the early 1840's when Texas was a country. Irene was a fifth generation Texan. She was called Irene her entire life, and was known as "Aunt Rene" to her many nieces and nephews and their children.
Irene married James William "J.W." Green at age 18 in 1929. In 1930 they were living in Port Arthur, Texas. They had five children, three daughters and two sons, over the next 14 years. Irene lived in Port Arthur for 80 years. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Port Arthur, her life was an example of her Christian faith. Irene was an avid "42" player with her friends. She was devoted to family, and was close to her sisters and brothers their entire lives. She was the last of the ten to pass away.
During World War II Irene worked as an electrician at a shipyard in Orange, Texas. She later became a licensed vocational nurse and was in great demand working as a private duty nurse. In the 1960's her mother was stricken by a stroke and bedridden for several years. Irene and her sisters took turns staying with their mother for one week shifts. At first, they cared for their mother in her own apartment in Port Arthur and then at a nursing home in Cleveland, Texas until her death in 1968.

Irene was in relatively good health her entire life. The last few years before she passed away she suffered from elderly dementia, and lived in a nursing home in Conroe, Texas which was near her son and daughter. When she passed away she was 102.
