Funeral Services For Louisa W. Cowles
Mrs. Louisa Elizabeth Wilcock Cowles, 89, died of causes incident to age Nov. 17 at her home in Salt Lake. She was born Aug. 21, 1874 in Parowan to Edward and Lydia Allen Wilcock. She married Henry Newell Cowles Aug., 23, 1894 in Escalante, marriage solemnized in Salt Lake Temple. He died July 5, 1938.
She was Postmaster in Escalante from 1913 to 1928, active in LDS Church auxiliaries.
Survivors, sons, daughter: LeRoy E., Alton E., Mrs. Spencer W. (Evelyn) Carter, all of Salt Lake; Daniel H., Escalante; 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren ; brother, sisters: Daniel, Mrs. Mary Lyman, both of Escalante; Mrs. Isabell Alvey, Salt Lake.
Funeral services were held Nov. 20 at Salt Lake, with additional services at Escalante South ward on Nov. 21 which were as follows : prayer for the family, John Weigle; prelude and postlude music, Areola Gates; invocation, Newell Cowles; song, "Hair Of Silver Heart Of Gold", Singing Mothers, accompanied by Areola Gates; talks by Pres. J. Clyde Spencer and Lorenzo Griffin; Claron Griffin read a letter from Louisa's Bishop paying tribute to her; song, "There Are Friends That We Never Forget", Singing Mothers; benediction, Dale Marsh; dedication of the grave by Daniel Cowles.
Out of town folks were Roy Cowles, his daughter Darlene and baby, Alton Cowles and family, Spencer and Evelyn Carter and son, Jessie Allen and wife and Mrs. Lowe from St. George; Dennis Hall, Van and Louis Porter, John and Orabell Weigle, Wren and Bell Roundy. The reason they held two funeral services was that her sister Isabell Cottam was not able to come from Salt Lake here, and her brother Daniel Cowles was not able to go to Salt Lake. Mary Lyman attended both. The Cowles family wishes to thank everyone who helped in any way at their time of bereavement.
