He had been employed by Borden's Milk Co. at Randolph and Frewsburg for many years and at Chappel's Lumber Co. in Frewsburg, retiring in 1954.
He was born Aug. 24, 1896, in Ellery Center, the son of George and Hulda Parsons Dowd.
Surviving are his wife, Myrredith VanTassel Dowd of Jamestown; a son, William J. Dowd of Limestone; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Benson of Fairview, Pa., and Mrs. Leon Pritchard of Jamestown; and five grandchildren, Larry McMillan of Sugar Grove, Pa., Alan Benson, Indianapolis, Ind., Bradley, Brenda and Bethany Benson of Fairview, Pa. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Marjorie and Winifred Dowd, and two sons, Sherwood and Lawrence Dowd; and several brothers and sisters.
