Charles was the youngest of seven children born to Samuel and Lucy (Thomas) Poore. He married Mary Elizabeth 'Eliza' (Lombard) in 1840 and they had nine children: Benjamin Thomas, Charles Henry, Nancy Ellen, Samuel M., Mary E., Amatia, Imogene, Ada L. and Flora.
