You're not gone until you're forgotten...

Then I come along and take a picture of a downed and broken stone, and figure out who they were and what they did, and they are not forgotten any more.

I like to find seldom-visited, overgrown cemeteries:

'In Maine the forests shadow round the dead
until the dead are indistinguishably mingled with trees--'
(Elizabeth Coatsworth)

The parting sentence of Middlemarch says: "For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts: and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."

Find A Grave gives me a chance to visit those I might never see. I thank all the people who take pictures of stones I'll never visit. I hope I can photograph some of those for you.
