Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 37th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on June 8, 1864, and was mustered in as a Private in Company H on June 23, 1864. The regiment was a 100-days enlistment unit earmarked for garrison and fatigue duty in Virginia. While performing that duty, he was transferred to Battery E, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Light Artillery, and re-enlisted for one year on August 23, 1865. He served with the artillery battery through the conclusion of the Seige of Petersburg, and to the end of the war. He was honorably mustered out on June 12, 1865.
