HOLT, VELMA E. (YOUNG) 89, died March 27, 2014 at Overlook Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late Harry Holt for 61 years.
She was a daughter of the late Willoughby and Emily (Chadwick) Young.
Velma was a schoolteacher at the William Windsor and Anna McCabe Schools in Smithfield for 38 years, retiring in 1984.
A 1946 graduate of the RI College of Education (Now Rhode Island College), she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Eta Chapter. She was a member of the NEA, the Blackstone Valley Retired Teachers Association, and the RI State Retired Teachers Association.
She was a parishioner of the Berean Baptist Church, where she was Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years.
She was also a 50 year member of the Queen of Sheba Lodge, OES #10 of Scituate.
When wintering in Ft. Myers, FL, she was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine.
Velma is survived by a sister and four nephews.
She was the aunt of the late Marilyn Spaulding.
