Wilhelmina Josephine Rosene, nee Peterson was born in Hvana parish, Smaland, Sweden, June 7, 1854. In the year 1867 the family immigrated to America and came first to Andover, Illinois. The same year the family group moved to Litchfield, Minnesota. After a short stay in the north they came by train and river to Topeka where the family made their home until 1871 when they came to Scandia. On November 1, 1875 she was married to Andrew P. Rosene and this union was blessed with five children, one girl dying in infancy, the others, August, Elmore, Amanda and Mrs. Julia Johnson, now surviving. Almost three years ago Mrs. Rosene was stricken by a paralytic stroke and from this she never recovered. Gradually strength ebbed away and on October 9, 1933, the spirit slipped home. She was then 79 years, 4 months, and 2 days of age. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and a charter member of the Scandia Methodist church, joining, March 4, 1877 when it was founded.
She leaves besides her children a large number of relatives and friends to mourn her going. And now the God that she loved and served, strengthen and sustain those who have done much to tenderly care for her in the long illness, and who loved her as mother and friend. May the memory of her life be an inspiration to all that knew her. Peace to her memory.
Funeral services were held October 11, 1933 from the family home and the Methodist Church, with the Rev. B. W. Selin, officiating. Interment at Riverview Cemetery.
