Jack Gallagher’s parents divorced when he was very small. He lived much of the time with his maternal grandparents at their Union Lake farm, and attended the nearby one-room District 126 elementary school, from 2nd through 8th grades. He also spent time with his aunts, Rachel Bickel and Beatrice Albers and their families, as well as with his mother when it was feasible.

Jack graduated from the University of Minnesota, School of Agriculture. He worked in industrial engineering and tool design, at Honeywell Corp. in Minneapolis; at the Toro Co.; and at Northern Ordinance Co.

Jack was married in Minneapolis ( Hennepin Co.) on Oct. 3, 1936, to Ethel Frances Skaare. They raised two children, Sharon and Kenneth. In 1967, Jack and his family moved to Bend, Oregon, where he worked at Willamette Iron & Steel, and at Tectronics, in mechanical design and drafting.
