Robert Frank Rieder was born on July 14, 1922 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Susan (Hoffman) Rieder. He attended Cathedral High School, Saint John's University, and St. Cloud State University before proudly enlisting in the military in 1942 to serve his country in Europe during WWII.

He married Kippy Bruning, then a medical technologist at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, mostly for love, and partially because she had Gopher football and basketball tickets. They were married on Monday, May 19, 1952 in St. Cloud, in order to not miss the fishing opener on Saturday. Bob was a lifelong Golden Gopher fan, and he and Kippy felt justly rewarded when after winning the ticket lottery for the 1997 Final Four in Indianapolis, their beloved Gophers made their only Final Four appearance that year.

Bob was also a lifelong golf fanatic, accumulating an attic full of trophies won at "shortstop" tournaments throughout central Minnesota. He will forever hold the 9 hole course record at the St. Cloud Country Club. Bob patiently taught the game to Kippy and his four sons, spending many afternoons at Eastwood Golf Club with one or more son in tow. Bob and Kippy celebrated their life long love for each other and the game of golf by attending The Masters in Augusta, Georgia for their 50th Anniversary celebration in 2002. They celebrated their 60th anniversary with a luncheon and family putting contest at Eastwood, during which Bob and Kippy received the coveted "Still Puttering Around Award".

Bob worked for many years in sales, notably for Kraft Foods and the Knights of Columbus Life Insurance Company. He was a man of devout faith and volunteerism. He was a long time member of St. Francis and Resurrection Parishes in Rochester, as well as the Knights of Columbus, serving as the Grand Knight of Council 1013 and representing them at their national convention in California in1969. While in California, he took his family to see the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, hoping to one day return to see the Golden Gophers play there. Bob volunteered regularly at Lourdes High School football games and also at Assisi Heights. He had a quick wit, an infectious smile and laugh, and will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bob passed away peacefully while surrounded by his four sons on September 26th, 2013, at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home in Rochester, just 6 days after his beloved wife of 61 years, Kippy. They truly did do everything together.

Bob is survived by sons Mark (Coleen); Gary (Lu Ann); Joe (Jennifer); and Jeff (Tracie); as well as their ten grandchildren: Jason, Nick, Jenna, Claire, Katelyn, Will, Shane, Emelia, Molly, and Benjamin; and his many compassionate caregivers at Samaritan Bethany.

In addition to Kippy, Bob was also preceded in death by his 12 siblings: sisters Alma Rau, Margaret Wartman, Dorothy Boese, Kathleen Landowski, and Lucille Jansen; and brothers Edward, Walter, Harold, Lawrence, Norbert, Donald, and John "Jack" Rieder.

Private family services will be held prior to interment at Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 92.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research, c/o Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th Street SE, Rochester, MN 55904.
