Frank LaVerne Scharf died suddenly at the Tioga General Hospital, Waverly, May 22, 1963, aged 80 years. He was a retired plumber, having served the people of this area from 1909 to his retirement in 1953.
Born in Candor and a life-long resident, he was the son of George and Sarah Houck Scharf.
Mr. Scharf was a loyal member of McKendree Methodist Church, its Official Board and Methodist Men. He was also a member of Candor Subordinate Grange and Tioga Pomona Grange. A lover of nature, he was an ardent gardener, a fisherman and hunter, and loved by little children.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Juanita Strong Scharf; one son, Raymond Scharf; one daughter, Mrs. Florence Birch, all of Candor; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Scharf of Candor; three sisters, Mrs. Anna White of Rochester, Mrs. Jennie Woolever of Binghamton, and Mrs. Edwin Menzies of Endicott; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the McKendree Methodist Church, Sunday, May 26, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. M. Erford Freelove officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home, Candor, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

CANDOR--Frank L. Scharf, 80, lifelong resident of Candor, died in Tioga General Hospital, Waverly Wednesday, May 22, 1963, after a brief illness.

He was in the plumbing business in Candor for over 40 years, retiring in 1953. He was a member of McKendree Methodist Church and the Men's Club of that church. He was a member of Candor Grange.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Neta Scharf, a son, Raymond and a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Birch, all of Candor; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Anna White of Rochester Mrs. Jane Woolever of Binghamton and Mrs. Edwin Menzies of Endicott; a brother, Joseph Scharf of Candor; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Miller Funeral Home, Candor. The Rev. M. Erford Freelove, pastor of McKendree Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
