[3] Arie, born Dec 1865, son of Dirk and Jenneke, married Barbara
Veenstra on Mar. 6, 1889 at Otley, lowa. Barbara was born on May 12,
1869, at Otley, lowa., the daughter of Hendrikes "Henry" Veenstra and
Heltje "Hattie" (Jansma) Veenstra. After their marriage Arie and
Barbara moved to a farm south of Lynnville, Iowa, and to this union
were born the following children: Dirk "Dick" A. on Mar. 31, 1890;
Henry on June 30, 1893; Peter A. on Sept. 19, 1894; Grace on Jan.
27, 1902; one daughter and one son who died in infancy and were
buried in the New Salem Cemetery south of Lynnville, Iowa. The
family lived on the farm until Feb. 1917 when they moved into Pella,
Iowa. Then Arie was employed by the Pella Feeder works Co. and
later with the Bastiaan Andeweg Transfer Co.
Arie passed away June 29, 1932 at age 66; Barbara passed away
Dec. 13, 1936 at age 67. Both were buried in Oakwood Cemetery,
Pella, Iowa.
(1) Dirk "Dick" A., the oldest son of Arie and Barbara, passed away
Dec. 20, 1909 at age 19 at the Abbott Hospital, Oskaloosa, lowa.,
following surgery for appendicitis. He was engaged to be married.
Dirk was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella.
(2) Henry, the second son of Arie and Barbara, passed away May 10,
1931 at age 38 at his parents' home in Pella, Iowa. Henry was
buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella.
(3) Peter A., the third son of Arie and Barbara, married Clara Vander
Syde on Oct. 28, 1914 in Newton. Clara was born on Oct. 21,
1894 near Sully, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob Vander Syde and
Lena (Van Genderen) Vander Syde. Peter and Clara farmed in
the Sully area until 1924 when they moved to Minnesota, farming
first at Hollandale and later at Albert Lea. To this union were born
eleven children: Arno in 1915; Darlene in 1917; Vernon in 1918;
Donald in 1920; Mildred in 1922; Lester in 1923; Paul in 1926;
Raymond in 1928; Duane in 1929; Dale in 1932; and LaVonne in
1934. Arno, Vernon, and Lester served in the Armed Forces
during World War II; Paul, Raymond, and Duane served their
country following the war. Arno passed away June 11, 1951 at
age 36 at Frankfort, Germany; Vernon passed away Dec. 18,
1967, at age 49, at Mora, Minnesota; Duane passed away Nov. 21,
1981, at age 52, in Albert Lea, Minnesota; and Donald passed
away Dec. 23, 1985, at age 65, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Arno,
Duane and Donald were buried in Graceland Cemetery, Albert
Lea, Minn.; Vernon was buried at Mora, Minn.
In 1953 Peter and Clara Van Ryswyk left the farm and moved
into Albert Lea. Clara passed away Apr. 22,1968,at age 73, in
Albert Lea; Peter passed away July 26, 1970, at age 75, in Albert
Lea. Both were buried in Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea.
(4) Grace, born on Jan. 27, 1902; daughter of Arie and Barbara,
married Frank F. Wielard on Feb. 28, 1930, in Pella. Frank
was born on Mar. 23,1903, near Otley, the son of Kryn Wielard
and Tryntje "Kate" (Vander Wiel) Wielard. To this union were
born two children: Vernon in 1934, and Marilyn in 1940. Grace
and Frank farmed in the Pella, Iowa area until 1948 when they
moved into Pella. He worked in maintenance at Central College
and later the REC; Grace was self-employed as a piano
instructor. Frank passed away Dec. 6, 1977, at age 74, in Iowa
City, lowa. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Grace
resides in Pella. Vernon served with the U.S. Army from Oct.
1956 until Oct. 1958 with overseas duty in Okinawa. He resides
in Pella and is employed at Rolscreen Co. Marilyn resides with
