Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Saturday, April 9, 1960, page 2:
  Ben Howard Richards, 76, general manager and president of Richards Brick Co. since 1904 and a director of the Edwardsville National Bank & Trust Co., died Friday night at St. Anthony's Hospital, Alton, where he had been a patient since Sunday evening.
  Mr. Richards, who resided at 746 Hillsboro Ave., was active in various civic affairs and participated in organizing and sustaining promotional organizations in the structural clay products industry in which he was widely known.
  He was a charter member of Sunset Hills Country club and a 50-year member of the Masonic order, Edwardsville Lodge No. 99 AF & AM. He attended the Edwardsville schools, St. Louis Manual Training school and the University of Illinois.
  Born Oct. 22, 1883 on a farm near Edwardsville, Mr. Richard was the youngest son of the late Benjamin H. and Jane Stice Richards. He was married Oct. 27, 1909 to Clara Charlotte Tuxhorn, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ben H., Jr., of Mattoon, Charles T. and Robert W. of Edwardsville; four grandsons and four granddaughters.
  He was preceded in death by a son, David; a brother, Russell and a sister, Frances.
  Friends may call at the Weber funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday when the body will be taken to St. John's Memorial chapel to lie in state until 2 p.m. service. The Rev. Dr. Clyde Funkhouser, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Pallbearers were Auerlius Allen of St. Louis, Charles F. Tuxhorn, Ray Dustman, W.G. Martin, A.C. Boeker and Michael Semanisin, all of Edwardsville.
