Stanley P. "Spud" Davis, 90, of Scales Mound died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Elizabeth Nursing Home.

The son of Percy and Viola (Bausman) Davis, he was born Aug. 1, 1915, near Scales Mound. On Jan. 1, 1934, Stanley and Cleone O'Neill were married. Cleone died on June 20, 1940. On Aug. 1, 1941, Stanley married Marian Bohnsack. Mr. Davis was a successful farmer who thoroughly enjoyed his chosen occupation. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and visiting his cousins in South Dakota.

For eight years, he served as Scales Mound Township Supervisor. He also served 16 years as a member of the Jo Daviess County Board. Mr. Davis was a member of Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau, a charter member of the Scales Mound Lions Club and Galena B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 882 for more than 55 years.

He was a 1933 graduate of Scales Mound High School. Spud enjoyed his many friends and the many family gatherings. His parents died previously.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound with Father Everett J. Hiller officiating. Burial will be at Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Miller & Steinke Funeral home in Scales Mound. The parish rosary will be at 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
