Iva Jean Strickland Ross, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Mayo Health System of Waycross after an extended illness and stay at Baptist Village.
She was born in Homerville but had lived most of her life in Waycross. She was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.
Until she became ill, Mrs. Ross was an avid seamstress and worked her entire adult life in the sewing industry. Mrs. Ross was loved by everyone who knew her.
Mrs. Ross joins her parents, James Sammie Strickland, Sr. and Gladys Lucille (Waldron) Strickland and one sister, Betty Sue (Strickland) Temple in heaven.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, 9 months, Billy Gene Ross of Waycross; her devoted children, son, Jeffrey Ross (girlfriend, Donna White) of Waycross, and Diane Ross Cannon (husband, Ralph) of Waycross; and two grandsons, David Cannon and Daniel Cannon of Statesboro, two brothers, R.L. (Buddy) Strickland (wife, Frances) of Waycross, and James Sammie Strickland, Jr. (wife, Darlene) of Blackshear; four sisters, Beverly (Ray) Burtner (husband, the late Robert) of Waycross; Kay Martin (husband Dennis) of Waycross and Naples, FL; Gay McCoy (husband, Sonny) of Turkey Creek, KY, and Janice Lynn Holter of Jacksonville, FL; Also, a maternal aunt, Maureen (Waldron) Wade of Fernandina, FL; three sister-in-laws, Fay Ross of Waycross, Ruth Boyd (husband, the late Billy), of Orange Park, FL and Ola Mae Ross (husband, the late Ray), of Waycross; and one brother-in-law, Julian Ross (wife, Ruth) of Blythe Island, GA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and her Baptist Village family.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (September 7, 2013) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be Friendship Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
